The BIS product Marking scheme is essentially voluntary in nature for most of the items excepting those listed as Mandatory like Packaged Drinking Water, Construction Steel etc, and is largely based on IS Standards associated with its Scheme of Testing & Inspection, which provides general rules for third party certification system of determining conformity with product standards through initial testing and assessment of a factory quality management system and its acceptance followed by surveillance that takes into account the factory Quality management system and the testing of samples from the factory and the open market. All BIS Product Marking cum certifications are carried out in accordance with Indian Standards, which have been found amenable to product certification.

IQEMS, since the last 2 decades is associated with BIS in various activities like: Assistance & Guidance to Clients in there Product Marking process, Assistance & Guidance to Clients in there Management System Certifications in accordance to IS/ISO Standards, including those associated with FSSAI. IQEMS also has in the past extended Expert Faculty Services for BIS Training Programs (5 Days Lead Auditors Training Programs) for QMS, EMS, OHSMS as well as FSMS.

Recently, BIS is also exploring the possibilities to invite External Auditors as its expert panel wherever they are required. IQEMS has opted for this opportunity by applying for this.
